Ketamine Therapy for Depression, Anxiety & PTSD in Utah

Physician-supervised ketamine treatment for conditions that haven't responded to standard care. One of the only providers in Central Utah — serving Salina, Richfield, and Sevier County.

Ketamine therapy requires a medical screening and is not appropriate for all patients. All programs at Abbott are physician-supervised by Dr. Justin Abbott, D.O.
A Different Kind of Treatment

When Standard Treatments Haven't Been Enough

For decades, depression, anxiety, and PTSD have been treated primarily with medications that take weeks to work — and don't work at all for roughly one-third of patients. Ketamine changes that equation.

Unlike traditional antidepressants that work on serotonin, ketamine targets the glutamate system — one of the brain's primary communication pathways. It works rapidly, often producing measurable improvement within hours to days, and in many patients restores neural pathways that chronic stress and trauma have disrupted.

Abbott Health & Wellness offers physician-supervised ketamine therapy in Salina, Utah — making this treatment accessible to patients across Sevier County, Richfield, Manti, and Central Utah who would otherwise need to travel to Salt Lake City or beyond for care.

Every program begins with a medical screening to confirm candidacy. Not every patient is a good fit, and we're honest about that.

The Science Behind Ketamine

Ketamine is an FDA-approved anesthetic medication that has been used safely in medicine for over 50 years. In sub-anesthetic doses, it acts as a rapid-acting antidepressant by blocking NMDA receptors and stimulating AMPA pathways — promoting neuroplasticity and restoring communication between brain regions disrupted by depression and trauma.

What To Expect

Your Ketamine Therapy Experience

From screening to your first session to follow-up — here's what the process looks like at Abbott Health & Wellness.

Screening

Medical Evaluation First

Before anything else, Dr. Abbott reviews your mental health history, current medications, and overall health to confirm ketamine is appropriate for you. Some patients are not candidates, and we take this seriously.

Sessions

Calm & Supervised

Sessions take place in a quiet, comfortable clinical space. You receive a sub-anesthetic dose that produces a temporary dissociative state — a sense of mental detachment that resolves fully before you leave. Sessions typically last 40–60 minutes. You will need a driver.

Protocol

A Series, Not a Single Shot

Standard protocol for depression is 6 sessions over 2–3 weeks. Maintenance sessions may follow based on your response. Many patients experience rapid improvement — sometimes after the first or second session.

Your Reason For Coming Is Nobody Else's Business.

Salina is a small town — and that's a feature, not a limitation. Our practice offers the privacy you deserve when seeking mental health treatment. No shared waiting rooms, no neighbors in the lobby. Just a quiet room and a conversation with your doctor.

Why Abbott

Physician-Supervised Ketamine Care in Central Utah

Most ketamine providers in Utah are in Salt Lake City or operate as standalone ketamine clinics without the integrated functional medicine context that can make treatment more effective and lasting.

At Abbott, ketamine therapy is part of a broader picture. Dr. Abbott can address the hormone imbalances, sleep disruption, and nutritional deficiencies that often compound mental health conditions — giving the ketamine a better chance of producing lasting results rather than temporary relief.

Board-certified D.O. on-site for every session

Not a technician, not a remote supervising physician — Dr. Abbott is present.

Integrated functional medicine support

Address hormone, metabolic, and nutritional factors alongside ketamine.

Private, discreet location

Salina, Utah — not a busy Salt Lake City clinic. Your care stays quiet.

Common Questions

Ketamine Therapy FAQs

What patients ask most before their first appointment.

Ketamine therapy is used for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, bipolar depression, and certain types of chronic pain. It is most often considered when standard medications have not produced adequate results after appropriate trials.
When administered by a qualified physician in a supervised medical setting, ketamine has a strong safety record developed over 50+ years as an FDA-approved anesthetic. Abbott Health & Wellness conducts thorough medical screening before approving any patient for ketamine therapy, and all sessions are directly supervised by Dr. Justin Abbott, D.O.
Ketamine is notable for its rapid action compared to traditional antidepressants. Many patients report meaningful improvement in mood and symptoms within hours to days of their first treatment — rather than the weeks or months that standard antidepressants require. This rapid response is one of the primary reasons it is used for treatment-resistant cases.
Sessions are conducted in a calm, comfortable clinical space with relaxing music and low lighting. You'll receive a sub-anesthetic dose that typically produces a temporary dissociative experience — a sense of mental detachment that resolves fully within 30–45 minutes of the infusion ending. Most patients describe it as manageable and unlike any other treatment they've had. You will need someone to drive you home afterward.
A standard initial protocol for depression involves 6 sessions over 2–3 weeks. Maintenance sessions may be recommended based on your response. Some patients experience lasting improvement from the initial series alone; others benefit from periodic maintenance sessions. Your provider will outline a personalized plan at your consultation.
Most insurance plans do not currently cover ketamine infusion therapy for mental health indications, though coverage is expanding. Abbott Health & Wellness accepts CareCredit financing. We're happy to discuss payment options at your consultation. Many patients find the investment worthwhile compared to years of medications that haven't worked.
Abbott Health & Wellness in Salina, Utah is one of the only physician-supervised ketamine therapy providers in Central Utah. We serve patients from Richfield, Manti, Gunnison, Fillmore, Ephraim, and across Sevier and Sanpete Counties — without the drive to Salt Lake City.
