IPL: Targeted Light for Sun Spots, Redness, and Uneven Tone.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) treats pigmentation and redness by targeting the color beneath your skin's surface — sun spots, broken capillaries, and blotchy tone — without significant downtime.

How It Works

Light Targeted at Pigment and Blood Vessels

IPL delivers broad-spectrum light that's selectively absorbed by pigment (melanin) and blood vessels beneath your skin's surface, while leaving surrounding tissue largely undisturbed. That targeted absorption is what allows IPL to fade sun spots, reduce visible redness and broken capillaries, and even out blotchy skin tone over a series of treatments.

IPL works best on lighter skin tones with good contrast between the target (pigment or vessels) and surrounding skin — it's not appropriate for all skin types, which is why a real skin assessment comes before treatment, not after you've already booked a series.

Commonly used for

Sun spots and age spots
Visible redness and broken capillaries
Blotchy or uneven skin tone
Mild rosacea-related redness
General sun damage from cumulative sun exposure
Overall skin tone refinement
How We Approach It

A Skin Assessment Before Any Series Is Booked

We start with a real skin consultation to confirm IPL is appropriate for your skin type and goals — not every patient is a good candidate, and we'll say so honestly. Most patients see optimal results over a series of 3 to 5 treatments spaced several weeks apart.

Physician Insight

"IPL is genuinely excellent for the right patient and the right concern — pigment and redness respond well. It's not the right tool for every skin type or every concern, and I'd rather tell a patient that upfront than sell a series that won't give them the result they're picturing."

IPL pairs well with: sun damage, rosacea, skin resurfacing, chemical peels, and our full Med Spa menu.

IPL Photofacial FAQs

What patients ask most before their first appointment.

No — IPL works best on lighter skin tones with clear contrast between the target pigment or vessels and surrounding skin. It's generally not recommended for darker skin tones due to a higher risk of pigmentation changes. We'll assess your skin honestly before recommending treatment.
Most patients see optimal results over a series of 3 to 5 treatments, spaced about 3 to 4 weeks apart, followed by occasional maintenance sessions. Your exact plan depends on what you're treating and how your skin responds.
Minimal for most patients — some redness for a few hours to a day, and treated spots may darken slightly before flaking off over 1 to 2 weeks. Most patients return to normal activities immediately, though sun protection afterward is essential.
